Educational Policy
Program Objectives
Innovation based on life science requires an interdisciplinary approach towards the sustainable use of resources as well as their conservation and commercialization. The foundation of this process are excellent communication and management skills, being able to identify key issues, and finding and implementing innovative solutions to problems based on advanced knowledge and skills. Individuals who obtain such transferable skills can actively engage in the global business fieldin Medical care, Pharmaceutical, Food and Environmental industries.
Degree Programs
The T-LSI program consists of two-year master course and three-year Ph.D. course. Students who successfully passed the final review will receive their degrees as follows:

Our goal is to develop advanced professionals that acquire the cross-sectoral and comprehensive way of thinking and the world-class advanced professional research capabilities, open up new progress in the life sciences research using bioresources and are globally active in the research and development of innovative pharmaceuticals / functional foods and in the field of their conservation and management.

Diploma Policy
The degrees including Master of Disease Mechanism, Master of Medical Science, Master of Food Innovation, Master of Environmental Management, Master of Bioinformatics and Master of Bioengineering will be conferred to the ones who meet the necessary conditions in Graduate School Regulations of University of Tsukuba (the number of credits of class subjects and research guidance), achieve research results suitable for master’s degree in the following courses including Disease Mechanism, Drug Discovery, Food Innovation and Environmental Management, respectively, submit a thesis on specific subject research, and are certified by the final examination that they possess the following abilities.
- Basic specialized knowledge of comprehensive field of life science innovation
- Specialized knowledge of one of the following fields: Disease Mechanism, Drug Discovery, Food Innovation, Environmental Management, Bioinformatics and Biomolecular Engineering
- The ability to collaborate with researchers outside of one’s area of expertise
- English communication skills that work in the international community
- Capacity to perform research to understand the social needs, set and solve the problems

- Integrated research ability to conduct research independently, perform presentation and discussion at international academic meeting, and publish scientific papers to discover and solve the potential problems associated with life science innovation in one of the following fields: Disease Mechanism, Drug Discovery, Food Innovation, Environmental Management, Bioinformatics and Biomolecular Engineering
- Specialized English communication skills that work in the international academic community
- The ability to collaborate with researchers outside of one’s area of expertise and integrate different fields as a global leader
Partner Private and National Institutes
Professors from the different research institutes and private companies will share with the students, their practical point of view for Life Science Innovation through lectures, internships, and research supervision, sharing their knowledge and know-how, what motivates them, as well as their purpose and priorities in R&D.
Professors from top-ranked universities abroad
Professors from four universities abroad associated with the program will give the students a chance to experience a “world class learning experience and environment” and in the process, acquire the necessary research and innovative product development skills.
