Admission Fees / Tuition Fees

Tuition Fees: 535,800 yen /year (As of 2024)

The students who complete the master’s program in graduate schools at the University of Tsukuba and subsequently proceed to the doctoral program will not be charged admission fees.

Entrance Fee Exemption / Tuition Waiver

At the University of Tsukuba, Entrance Fee Exemption and tuition waiver that exempt the entire or half of the tuition fee may be granted to individuals who have difficulty making payment due to financial problems or some other unavoidable circumstances.

Residence Halls / Apartment Information

Student residence halls are located within the campus of the University of Tsukuba. There are apartments and condominiums around the university.

Scholarship

TLSI does not offer any financial support to its students but incoming and current students are encouraged to apply for scholarship grants offered by Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO), local governments, and private organizations.

TA/RA

Teaching Assistantships (TA)

Teaching Assistantships (TA) are available. For Master’s degree students tasks mainly involve assisting in undergraduate program classes and for Ph.D. students by assisting in undergraduate and/or Master’s Degree program classes. Signify your interest to apply for available TA positions once you are accepted to the program.

Research Assistantships (RA)

Ph.D. students who can support existing research projects of T-LSI professors may apply for available RA positions. RAs are employed by the T-LSI program or external grants of the individual faculty member. Signify your interest to apply for available TA positions once you are accepted to the program.

In addition, each participating research institute has its system for scholarship.

Research Fellowships for Young Scientists

Ph.D. students awarded the Research Fellowship for Young Scientists by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) receive a monthly stipend of 200,000 yen and can receive a research grant of up to 1.5 million yen annually.
